Michael Anthony "Tony" Ashley, 47, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away peacefully after a long suffering illness at his mother's home on Monday morning, August 31, 2009 in Battle Creek, MI. He was born February 11, 1962 in Battle Creek, MI the son of Mack Ashley, Jr.and Diana M. (Smith) Ashley. Tony was a customer service clerk for 23 years with the Pennfield Felpausch store, he had previously worked for 5 years at the old Cut Rate grocery store. He went on disability in Feb. 2009. He had made a television commercial for Felpausch and was also featured in USA Today. He characterized a very strong work ethic and could not tolerate someone who didn't have a job and worked for a living. Tony leaves behind his mother: Diana Marie Ashley of Battle Creek, MI; his sister: Sherri M Ashley (Dale Gibson) and brother: Charles "Shawn" Deshawn Ashley (Jenny Madison) both of Battle Creek; a special brother: Tony McKnight of Dallas, TX; maternal grandmother: Juanita Francis Smith of Battle Creek; aunts and uncles; two nieces: Shayla Glasper and Martila Sanders of Battle Creek; two nephews: Niko Ashley and Tyler Ashley; a special nephew: Mitchell Gordon; two great nieces: Amari and Kianna Ashley; a special friend: Nicole Rushing all of Battle Creek. Tony was preceded in death by his father, his paternal grandparents - Mack & Dezmer Ashley, Sr. Tony really enjoyed riding his bicycle daily to and from work, go to McDonald's for his cup of coffee and read USA Today paper everyday. Avid Michigan State fan, enjoyed watching sports on television especially college football, NBA and WNBA basketball games. He could carry on a conversion with the fellows about sports. He also enjoyed watching old gangster movies and seeing old comedies on television. He had an uncanny ability to remember a face and associating the person's name, the make of car and the license plate. He loved Motown music and loved to sing the songs with either correct or his own made-up words. Family hour will be Friday from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at the church. A Homegoing Celebration service will be held Friday, 1:00 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church "Homecoming Celebration" with Pastor James E. Perry, associate Pastor of Second Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI. Memorial tributes may be made to Lifespan-Good Samaritan Hospice Residence or CIR Community Integrated Recreation.
