Robert Tamsett, Beech-Nut Union President, Dies at 44

CANAJOHARIE - Robert G. Tamsett, 44, president of the Beech-Nut Employes Association of Beech-Nut Life Savers Inc. at Canajoharie, died Saturday at his home, 42 Lafayette St., Palatine Bridge. He had been ill for the past few months.

Mr. Tamsett was born in Canajoharie on Jan. 30, 1925, the son of Stephen and Bertha Pickett Tamsett, and had been a lifelong area resident. He served in the Air Force during World War II, and was a member of the Smith-Schultz American Legion Post in Canajoharie and the Fort Plain Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He had been employed for many years at the Canajoharie Beech-Nut plant as a machinist, and headed the large Employes Association. He was also a member of the Canajoharie-Palatine Chamber of Commerce, the Canajoharie Country Club and St. Joh's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie, including the council of the church and the Men's Brotherhood.

Mr. Tamsett is survived by his wife Ruth Pentland Tamsett and a son Robert G. Tamsett Jr. at home, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Tamsett of Tavares, Fla.; two brothers, Stephen Tamsett Jr., Canajoharie and Harry Tamsett of Tavares, a sister, Mrs. Floyd Darrow of Duanesburg, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lenz Funeral home, Canajoharie, with the Rev. Paul E. Henry Jr. of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be made in the Canajoharie Falls Cemetery.
