Thomas Stockton was a son of Margaret (nee unknown) and "Smith Creek" John Stockton (c.1763-c.1803). Thomas is reported to have been born on January 23, 1792, and died on April 16, 1872. However, there is no evidence those dates are correct, and Thomas is not shown with his wife and children in the 1870 census. It appears that Thomas probably died about 1865. Thomas was alive in 1860 and appears to be dead by 1870. That 1865 date might just be the midpoint between 1860 when he is known to be alive and 1870 where he appears to already be dead.

His first wife was Christine / Christina / Christiana Groce, and his second wife was Mary Pierce. Thomas lived in Stockton's Valley, Kentucky, named after his grandfather, Thomas Stockton, Sr., (c.1740-1809).
In 1837 Cumberland County split and Stockton's Valley was in the newly formed Clinton County.

The 1850 census shows Thomas as 58 years old, so born about 1792. The 1860 census shows "Thos" Stockton as 70 years old, so born about 1790.

Thomas Stockton was first married to Christine Groce. Her name is shown on two documents. The Death Certificate of her daughter Martilla (nee Stockton) Cross shows her as Christine Groce. Death Certificates are not the most reliable sources. The marriage license of her son Wiley S. Stockton shows her as Christiana.

Although no wife is shown for Thomas in the 1830 census, that does not prove Christine had died by 1830. She appears to have died in about 1838. Please see the Death Certificate for Martilla (nee Stockton) Cross. Father - Thomas Stockton. Mother - Christine Groce.
