Mrs. Scherbinske Services Held

Mrs. Sophie Scherbinske, 75, longtime resident of the Gackle, North Dakota community died early Saturday afternoon May 25, 1968 at her home in Gackle.

Sophie Moos was born September 19, 1892 in Robrback, South Russia, the daughter of Michael Moos and Elizabeth (Moos) Moos. At the age of nine years she came to the United States with her parents in 1902 when they settled at Meno, South Dakota. Later in the same year they moved to a farm near Kulm, North Dakota, and in the year 1904 the family homesteaded on a farm three miles south of Gackle in Logan County. She attended the local rural school and grew to womanhood in the vicinity. She and John A. Scherbinske were married December 28, 1915 at the farm home of her parents, south of Gackle. For a time they lived in Alfred, North Dakota and in the year 1922 they moved to Gackle where the family home has been to the present time.

She was a member of the Ladies Aid and the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Gackle.

Surviving are three children, Lillian (Mrs. Glenn Riggle), Fenton, Minn.; Edwin Scherbinske, Sterling, Ill.; Lloyd Scherbinske, Westminister, Calif.; twelve grandchildren; three brothers, Jacob M. Moos, Edward Moos, Medina, N.D.; John Moos, Issaquah, Wash.; two sisters, Elizabeth (Mrs. John Morlock), Gackle, N.D.; Magdalena (Mrs. Ludwig Eberhardt), Ontario, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1958, two daughters, one son, one brother and two sisters.

The funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 28, 1968 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Gackle with Rev. Edward Eslinger, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Gackle Cemetery. Haut Funeral Home of Gackle was in charge of arrangements.
