Joab, son of Joseph and Catherine Keturah Parkhurst Fitzgerald, Married Sarah Ward Fitzgerald, 3 June 1831 in Jefferson Co., IN. Parents of several successful and patriotic children who contributed greatly to the military and legal system of the United States. Children were: Daniel, Joseph, Jenkins, David, Nathan, Charles, Elsina, Clarissa, William T. and Samuel C.

Marble monument in poor condition. Inscriptions to parents, Joab and Sarah, sons; David, Daniel, Charlie and Joseph. American flag engraved above David's name. "Our Country's Defenders"; "erected in 1879 by the surviving members of the family of Joab H. Fitzgerald." "Their young lives were sacrificed upon the altar of our common country in upholding and defending it's glorious flag. In memory let us keep their names as martyrs in that strife." Mentions son Joseph is buried in Cincinnati.
