Hazleton Plain Speaker; Monday, April 8, 1901:
"Mrs. Peter Hugo Dead"
Mrs. Peter Hugo, aged 70 years, one of Hazleton's oldest and most respected residents, died of erysipelas last night at Retreat, in the upper end of the county, where she had been undergoing treatment for some time. The family was notified of her death today. No arrangements have yet been made for the funeral. The remains will arrive at the family residence, 438 West Broad street tonight.

Mrs. Hugo was born in Germany. She located in Hazleton with her husband 45 years ago and had ever since been a resident of the Hazleton region. She was a devout member of the Christ Lutheran church and of the Frauen Verein, one of the beneficial organizations connected with the congregation. Besides her husband she is survived by the following children: Mrs. Weyland, Philadelphia; Jacob Hugo, West Hazleton; Mrs. Wendemuth, widow of the late John Wendemuth, and Miss Kate, of this city.
Hazleton Daily Standard, Wednesday, April 10, 1901:
'Hugo' - At Retreat, Monday, April 9, Martha, wife of Peter Hugo, aged 70 years and 6 months. Funeral Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Services at the residence of Mrs. John Wendemuth, 438 West Braod street. Interment in Vine street cemetery. E. Bachman & Sons, funeral director.
Hazleton Daily Standard, Friday, April 12, 1901:
'Funeral of Mrs. Hugo'
The funeral of the late Mrs. Peter Hugo who died on Sunday night, took place from the family residence on West Broad street at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon and was largely attended. Services were conducted at the house by Rev. J. Schlenker, of the Christ German church, after which interment was made in Vine street cemetery. The Frauen Verein of the church of which the deceased was a member attended in a body.

'Card of Thanks'
The undersigned hereby extends his most sincere thanks to the friends and Frauen Verein of Christ German church, for their many acts of kindness upon the occasion of the funeral of Mrs. Hugo; also to those who sent floral offerings.
