His career encompassed three different professional football leagues. For ten seasons (1947 to 1956), he played at the defensive back, offensive end, wing back and halfback positions in the All-America Football Conference, National and Canadian Football Leagues with the Chicago Rockets/Hornets, Brooklyn Dodgers, Chicago Cardinals and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He attended Lanphier High School and was a three sports athlete during his collegiate years at Bradley Uniiversity, excelling in basketball and track as well as football. Prior to turning professional, Ramsey served in the United States Navy during World War II. He appeared in 74 career AAFC and NFL games recording 10 interceptions for 237 yards with the Cardinals during the 1953 season. In addition, he played two seasons in the National Basketball League and National Basketball Association (1947 to 1949) with the Tri-City Blackhawks and Baltimore Bullets appearing in 4 career games. Following his playing career, he worked as a teacher and coach from 1958 until his retirement in 1986. He was inducted into the Bradley Athletics Hall of Fame in 1949 and the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame in 1982. He died from complications of Alzheimer's disease. (bio by: C.S.)
