He was called Frederick F. Koesters in later life, though his baptismal name was Franz Friedrich Koester or Koesters.
Fritz, as he was called, worked as a blacksmith for most of his life. In earlier years Fritz and his wife Helena Fischer, with their 17 children, lived in a beautiful stone house (with only one or two bedrooms) in Gilmore, Missouri, on the old Rock Road to Jefferson City.
The house had been built by Fritz himself. It still stands there to this day.
Fritz and Helena decided to leave the property when most of their animals died very suddenly from some disease.
The couple moved into the city of St. Louis where Fritz still worked as a blacksmith for a number of years.
