Funeral services were held Friday, February 8, from the Moon chapel for Mrs. Ellen Smith, 88, who died at a local rest home. The Rev. James A. Armstrong officiated and interment was in Pinecrest.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Iowa. She was married there in March of 1901 to Charles F. Smith, who survives her. They came to Sandpoint in 1953 from Thompson Falls where they had spent the preceeding 10 years and prior to that time they had lived in Billings.
A son, Wilbur, died here in 1962 and a daughter, Grace Reed, died in Spokane in Oct of 1961.
Surviving are a son, Everett, in Spokane and a daughter, Golda Scherlie, Chinook, Mont., as well as two brothers, Elmer Athey of Redding, Iowa and Harry Athey of Lindsay, California. Two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
