Albert was the son of Eppy Ditus Hawkins and Emeline (Emily) Bond. He spent his childhood in Missouri, and on Mar. 17, 1881, he married Ellen Withem in Henry County. They had 14 children: Emma Leona, Lee, Linnie, Alma, Iva, Mable, Lola, Beulah, Carrie, Dolph, Harrold, Ulah and Ruth. Beulah and Iva died young and are buried in Delhi Cemetery. Another child died in infancy.
In the fall of 1883 Albert and Ellen moved to Kansas and settled in Osborne County near Lucas. In 1905 they moved to Graham County settling near Palco where they spent the remainder of their lives. Albert was a devout Methodist and was also a Mason. He was greatly interested in his children's education. Their neighborhood school, Evening Star #71, was also called "Hawkins" school.
