GREENVILLE, SC - Berry "Pop" Lee Burgess, 82, of 38 Second Avenue, Poe Mill, husband of Grace Jones Burgess, died Friday, May 19, 2006, at his residence.
Born in Anderson, he was a son of the late Andrew and Mary Boyter Burgess.
Mr. Burgess was retired from Winn Dixie and was a member of Cedar Lane Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters, Joyce Roper, Margaret Turner and Edna Cagle; three sons, Donald Berry Burgess, Wayne Burgess, and Eddie Burgess, all of Greenville; a number of half-brothers and half-sisters; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. He was a preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Burgess, and a sister, Elmer Hembree.
Memorials may be made to Cedar Lane Baptist Church, 203 Marion Street, Greenville, SC 29611.
Visitation will be held today, May 20, 2006, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, My 21, 2006, at 3 p.m. at Cedar Lane Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will be at the residence.
