Goodbye Grandpa Baer, We Love You PROVIDENCE, UTAH: Marcell Leishman Baer, 89, our beloved and loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully, Monday, December 22, 2003 at the Logan Regional Hospital.
Marcell was born September 8, 1914 along with his twin brother, Legrand, the third and fourth children of Joseph Richard and Gertrude Leishman Baer. He grew up in Providence and graduated from South Cache High School.
He married Lula Mae Cartwright in the Logan LDS temple on January 26, 1939.
Dad served in the Pacific Theater with the US Army and survived the sinking of a Liberty Ship. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the bishopric, in the young mens organization, as a stake missionary and as a temple guard for a number of years.
Marcell worked for the Amalgamated Sugar Co. in Lewiston, Utah and Nampa and Twin Falls, Idaho. He retired from the Twin Falls plant as an assistant superintendent. Although, his real love was working on his dads fruit farm up on the hill in Providence with his brothers, Wesley, Lloyd and Scott.
Dad was a compassionate man with a great sense of humor who was dedicated to his family, his neighbors and church. He loved this valley that his grandfather helped settle passionately. He loved the farm, the animals, the mountains and the fields.
He was proud and independent man. His kids and grand-kids looked to him and mom as a firm anchor in the storm of life. Their home at the top of the Providence lane has been the center of the universe for us.
He is survived by his wife Lula, daughter, Ellen and Garry Baker, Draper, Utah; a son, Edward Baer, Providence; five grandchildren, Marita, Aminta, Mario, Sara and Eddie, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephew and cousins, three sisters, Lucille and Theron Campbell; Donna and Don Wright; Juanita and Sterling Davis; brothers, Owen and Iris Baer; Lloyd and Joyce Baer; Wesley and Georgene Baer. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Greta Smith; Dorothy Plumelet, Lois Waite, twin brother, Legrand and infant brother, Glen.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 am in the Providence 8th Ward chapel, 55 North 100 East, with Bishop Roger Olsen conducting. A viewing will be held two hours prior to services. Interment will be in the Providence Cemetery with a military tribute by the American Legion.
