Sheriff of Dixon County in 1874 & 1875

Branson Harvey Beller was born in Fayette county, Ohio, in 1838 and died in the Samaritan hospital at Sioux City, Iowa, Sunday, August 12, 1906, at 8:30 a.m. at the ripe old age of 68 years and 5 months. Mr. Beller had been in failing health for some time. About a year ago it became neccessary to amputate his right leg on account of blood poison. Of late Mr. Beller was troubled in a like manner with his other leg and it was decided to take him to the hospital again for a second operation which was performed last Saturday. It was soon evident that he was not able to stand the shock and strain of the operation. He became unconcious Saturday evening when he passed away at 8:30 Sunday morning.

The remains were brought home Monday noon and interred in the Ponca cemetery Tuesday afternoon. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Henry Lampe, the sermon was preached by Rev. Geo. Bray at the Presbyterian church.

When Mr. Beller was but a boy of eleven years he moved with his parents to Illinois near the city of Peoria, living there for six years. From thence to Benton county, Iowa. In the year 1860 he married Margaret J. Douthitt to which union there were born seven children, three together with his wife still survive him, Mrs. Seliam Mattison of Ponca, John Beller living on the old home place north of Ponca and Willis Beller of Russell, Kansas.

The deceased was an honored soldier, a respected neighbor and a kind and affectionate husband and father.

We wish to express our heart felt thanks to the relatives and friends who so kindly assisted us in the last sickness and burial of our beloved husband and father. Also for the many beautiful flowers given.
