Gus E Gordon Succumbs to Long Illness

Gus Evans Gordon of Woodland, founder and twner of the G & O Supply Co., and salesman for Scribner Equipment Co., Amory, died at the Houston Hospital at 8:30 pm, Monday, April 12 following a lengthy illness. He was 69.

Mr. Gordon had resided in Chickasaw county all of his life, and was widely known throughout North Mississippi.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 am, Wednesday, April 14, from the Houston Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. John Atkins and the Rev. Harold Halcomb officiated.

Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery.

Mr. Gordon was a colonel on the staff of Governor John Bell Williams and was a mason. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church for 55 years.

He was born Sept. 13, 1901, the son of James Sidney Gordon and Hattie Dobbs Gordon.

Mr. Gordon is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lottie Magee Gordon of Woodland; a son, Jim Gordon of Houston; a daughter, Mrs. W W Brand, Jr., of Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Lula Smith of Tunica and Mrs. Jo Blue of Woodland. Four grandchildren also survive.

Pallbearers were Durell Gann, Joe Lee Doss, Bobby Naron, Bob Mixon, Derwood Dendy, Johnny Gann, Joe Bullock, and Paul Dendy.
