OBITUARY

Sarah Ellen, daughter of Ephraim and Catherine Mowery, passed peacefully to her eternal reward on December 6, 1916. The same calm spirit marked the end of this earthly pilgrimage that had characterized her more than three score years.
She was a loving, affectionate companion, tender, forgiving mother, a generous forbearing neighbor, and a firm believer in Christ who died that we might live.
As the spirit took its everlasting flight from the mortal clay, her satisfied, peaceful expression gave evidence of faith not in vain.
She was born near Woodstock, Virginia, October 15, 1856, on January 27, 1876 she was led to the matrimonial altar by Mr. Will Dosson Campbell, to this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Effie Peckinpaugh, who survives her. On Oct. 7, 1878, Mr. Campbell departed this life.
On February 1, 1883, she was united in marriage to Mr. J. H. Benton and to this union were born two sons, George Ragen, who died in infancy, and William Oscar, who still survives, three step children were brought into their home, Oliver Benton, Albert Benton, and Eva Perkins. Mrs. Benton was a kind and affectionate mother to both children and stepchildren, with no distinction between them.
She was converted under the pastorate of Rev. Kinney, was taken into the church and baptized on May 24, 1902, she was faithful to her Christian profession until God thought best to call her from her labor to reward. Just one year and four days since her dear mother was called to her eternal home.
She leaves a companion, one daughter, one son, three stepchildren, one grandchild, thirteen step-grandchildren, one brother, three sisters, and a great number of relatives and friends to mourn her departure.
Funeral services were held on Friday with interment at the family plot in the Crist cemetery. The services were in charge of W. M. Archer, of Gilboa, the pastor of Pleasant Grove church.
