Phoebe Catherine La Rue, daughter of John H. Larue and Rebecca Brown LaRue, was born November 28, 1853, at Muncie, Indiana, and moved with her parents to Wisconsin.
On December 6, 1868, she was united in marriage with Charles Adams. to this union were born two sons, Henry F. of Centralia; and Joseph W. of Holton. The family moved from Wisconsin to Iowa in 1883, and to Kansas in 1887, settling in Smith county. On account of the continual drought in western Kansas, they moved to this vicinity in 1891, and later to Havensville, where he died January 30, 1915.
Mrs. Adams was a member of the Havensville M. E. church and on account of her sunny disposition was always welcomed to the meetings of her Sunday School class and Ladies Aid, which she so greatly enjoyed.
She had been ill for some time, her grand-daughters Lela and Lydia caring for her with the aid of kind neighbors and friends. The past week she had appeared much better until Friday night when she became worse and quietly passed away Monday, May 7, at the age of 75 years, 5 months and 9 days. She leaves two sons and eight grandchildren. Her sister and brothers have preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. church, Tuesday afternoon at 3 :00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. H. Parker. Burial was in the Havensville cemetery.
