Frostburg, MD — Cecil Warren Bender, 88, of Frostburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at the WMHS-Braddock Campus. Born Nov. 25, 1920, in McKeesport, Pa., he was the son of the late Blaine Bender and Virginia (Rowe) Bender-Brennan. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Blanche (Crosten) Bender, on Feb. 26, 2002; and his older brother, Robert H. Bender. Mr. Bender retired after 35 years of service as a lineman for the C&P Telephone Company. Cecil was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the 550th Airborne Battalion and the 17th Division in the European Theatre. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6667 Fort Ashby, W.Va., Farrady Post 24 American Legion, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 348, life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 470, and a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie 1273, all of Frostburg. Surviving are his brother, George V. Bender and wife Dorothy, of Frostburg. A private graveside service was held on Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating. Interment was in the Eckhart Cemetery. Military honors were accorded by members of Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard.
