Alec immigrated from Scotland arriving in 1880 on the State of Pennsylvania ship. He lived briefly on Dutchess Ave. before he met & married Adelaide VanSchaick. He worked as an engraver at the Dutchess Print Works. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at the north end of South Avenue in the Village of Wappingers Falls. When he married Adelaide Van Schaick, he inherited her family house on South Avenue. On the 1920 census Alec still lists his occupation as "engraver." He also now says that he owns the house that his in-laws once owned. He and Adelaide had 4 children while living in the Gothic Revival house: Raymond, Ralph, John & Helen. In 1920 his daughter, Helen, is married to John Warner, and she and her husband rent part of the house.
