Gary M. Stumpff, son of Gareld M. and Edna (Cottrell) Stumpff was born March 27, 1943 near Galena and departed this life August 19, 2009 in his home at the age of 66 years, 4 months and 22 days.
Gary spent most of his life in the Galena and Crane area, graduating from Crane High School in 1960 and attended Drury College. He married Jean Ann Nicholson on January 31, 1962 and to this union 3 children were born. Gary attended Dallas Institute Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science where he graduated in 1963. He and his wife, Jean Ann owned and operated Stumpff Funeral Homes in Crane, Galena, Reeds Spring and Kimberling City for over 30 years. Gary became a Christian early in his life and was a member of First Christian Church, Kimberling City where he served as an elder for a number of years. He was a founding board member of Stone County National Bank, a member of Crane Chamber of Commerce, author for Stone County Historical book. Gary had also held the elected position of Stone County Coroner for over 16 years. He married Shirley Kerr, July 28, 1996, and together they were very active in overseas missions, traveling twice to Honduras, once to Mexico and spent approximately 6 months over a 3 year period in Haiti. When no longer able to travel they developed a clown ministry to touch lives for God, where they were affectionately known by young and old as "Rosie" and "Mosie". Gary loved to joke with people and enjoyed doing public relations work, an area which he was gifted. Gary's purpose in life was to glorify God and serve others.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Jean Ann.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Shirley of Galena; a daughter, Deborah Carey and her husband Richy of Shreveport, La.; two sons, Rick and his wife, Darla of Galena, Kurt and his wife, Christy of Crane; two step sons, Steve Wilson and his wife, Gayle, Kevin Wilson and his wife, Shellie both of Crane; a brother, Joe and his wife, Joyce of Mt. Vernon; 5 grandchildren, Michelle, Greg, Brett, Tim and Clay; 5 step grandchildren, Nathan, Matt, Ryan, Jordon, and Kelby; 3 great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Avery Jo and Fenli.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009, in First Christian Church of Kimberling City with Jerry Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Galena Cemetery under the direction of Manlove-Stumpff Funeral Home, Crane.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church or Children's Tumor Foundation in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 338, Kimberling City, MO 65686.
