|Birth: ||1987, England|
|Death: ||Aug. 16, 2009|
The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers
He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Fusilier Annis and Fusilier Louis Carter were trying to carry their injured section commander, Lance Corporal James Fullarton, to safety when a second roadside bomb killed all three. They had been on a foot patrol near Sangin in Helmand province.
Aged 22, from Salford, Greater Manchester, Fus. Annis joined the military in 2006 when he was 19. He was posted in Cyprus and deployed on training exercises in Jordan, Egypt and Belize. Working in these locales also allowed him to pursue his love for scuba diving. Returning to London, he also served on the battalion's Royal Palaces ceremonial duties. He married Caroline in February, just weeks before he deployed to Afghanistan as a light machine gunner. Fusilier Annis is remembered by colleagues as a dedicated soldier with a big heart and a great sense of humour.
In a statement, his wife said: "Simon was the perfect husband, son and brother. He will be sorely missed by all of us. He was a true hero who made all of us so very proud and he will always have a place in our hearts. We will love and miss him always".
Besides his wife Caroline, he is survived by his parents Ann and Peter Annis, brother Stuart, sister Natalie and other family and friends.
The funeral, with military honours, was held on September 3, 2009 at St John the Baptist Church in Irlam. Burial at Hollins Green Cemetery.
