Richard M. Cheek, son of Richard Cheek and Jane "Jennie" Andrews, was probably born in 1817 or 1818 based on census records, although his gravestone says he was born in 1814. His family settled in Ashe (Alleghany) County between 1817 and 1820. He married Frances "Franky" Crouse, daughter of Jacob Crouse and Sarah Edwards, abt. 1842. They had 9 children.
