Norwalk, Nov. 4-At the age of 82, Charles P. Venus, for two terms mayor of Norwalk, and a member of the state legislature for one term, died last night at his home on Seminary St. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from St. Paul's Catholic Church. The body will repose in the family vault in St. Paul's Cemetery. The Rev. Father G.A. Forst, assisted by the Rev. Father A.L. Sattler will officiate. Mr. Venus was born in Norwalk, the son of Sebastian and Elizabeth Venus. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Clara Deibel Venus. whom he married in 1912; the son, Robert of Chicago; and a half brother, Frank Roth, Norwalk banker; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Among the survivors is Arthur Deibel, nephew of Mrs. Venus. Mr. Deibel has lived at the Venus home since he was five years of age and has held the position in the household as a loving, devoted, and much cherished son. Mrs. Minnie Kunzelman Venus, the first wife of Mr. Venus, died about 1907. For years, Mr. Venus ranked as one of the leading insurance agents of the county. His marked success enabled him to be enrolled as a senior Uylic of the New York Life Insurance Co. In 1906, Mr. Venus was elected mayor on the Democratic ticket, at a time when Norwalk was strongly Republican. He served until 1910. In 1912, he was elected to the state legislature.
