Our loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, R. LaMar Allred, passed away from heart failure and returned home to our Heavenly Father on August 16, 2009.
Born June 7, 1929 at Boneta, Duchesne County, Utah to Leslie F. and Reva Fietkau Allred.
Married his high school sweetheart, Loeta Bagley Allred (deceased), for time and all eternity in the Manti Temple on July 21, 1950.
Graduate of Moroni High, Snow College, Brigham Young University, and the University of Utah. Also, did graduate work at the University of Colorado and Utah State University. Served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War with the assignment as an instructor at the Preventive Medicine Technicians Course, Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas.
Member of the LDS Church. Served a mission to the Northern States (Great Lakes) Mission from 1948-1950. Also served in many other assignments including Sunday School teacher, presidency of the South Texas District, Seventies quorum secretary, Young Men's President, Stake and Ward Teacher Development Director, High Councilor (twice), Stake Sunday School President, Bishop of the Sandy Seventeenth Ward, and instructor of the High Priest Group.
He was an educator (35 years) by profession. Taught biological sciences at Highland High, instructor of botany and biological sciences methodology at Brigham Young University, and was employed at the Utah State Office of Education for 26 years with assignments as state specialist of science education and coordinator of in-service curriculum education.
Retired in May 1993 after 35 years as an educator. Recipient of awards from the American Association for Conservation Information, Soil Conservation Society of America, the Biological Sciences Curriculum Study, and the Utah Science Teachers Association. Served in many leadership roles in education and was instrumental in the development of the largest in-service program for science educators in the state.
Married his loving best friend and companion, Peggy Jane Allred, on April 5, 2007 and sealed for time and all eternity in the Jordan River Temple. Enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, and travel.
Survivors: wife, Peggy; children, MaryAnn (Jack) Woods, Ray Scott (DeAnna), Randy (Julie) Bodtcher, Shelley (Guy) Marler, Shauna Pyle, Cami (Jerry) Kitchen; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Fred (Arleen); also nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents; sons, Larry LaMar Allred, Troy Bodtcher; brother, Dee; sister, Betty Johnson.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mount Jordan Fourth Ward Chapel, 235 East 9800 South, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held at Goff Mortuary 8090 South State Street, on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and at the Church on Thursday from 9:45-10:45 a.m.
Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens.
