THOMAS B. WHITE
Thomas Benjamin White, son of John A. and Catherine Brown White, was born on a farm in English township, April 25, 1887 and died July 23, 1955 at the age of 68 years, two months and 28 days. He was one of seven children, three brothers, Roy, Guy and Ralph, and two sisters, Mrs. Elva Riggs and Mrs. Grace Patterson, having preceded him in death, leaving one sister, Mrs. Hazel Baker of Des Moines still living.
His entire life has been spent on farms in Lucas county and within a radius of only a few miles. He received his education in the Lucas county public schools, later taking a commercial course at Blackburn college in Chariton.
At Scotts Bluff, Nebr., on Dec. 6, 1911, he was united in marriage to Miss Nettie Troyer of Wheatland, Wyo. They came at once to a farm in Lucas county where he has continued to follow farming as his life-work. They were the parents of two sons, John and Kenneth of Chariton and one daughter, Mrs. Marie King, Cardiff, Calif., who with the wife and seven grandchildren survive him.
In young manhood, he united with the Cain Presbyterian church in English township and his life has always evidenced his continuing faith in his maker. He was a great reader and student of local and national affairs and served his community well in many positions of trust and responsibility.
He was recognized among his neighbors and friends as a man of good judgement and high principles and most worthy of their confidence and esteem. While all who knew him grieve and feel that the community is poorer by his going it is yet richer in the memory of one who has made all life more worth-while because he was here.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 26, at 2 p.m. at the Beardsley funeral home conducted by the Rev. Lester Hall of the Chariton Methodist church. Music was furnished by Keith Langdon and Mrs. John Driggs with Mrs. Fred Shelton at the organ.
Casket bearers were nephews of the deceased, Clyde Riggs, Guy White, Jr., Richard Baker, Dwight Baker, John Baker and Keith Baker. Interment was in the Oxford cemetery.
