Oscar R. May Funeral Services at Calvary Church
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from Calvary Baptist Church in Silver Creek for Oscar R. May, 81, resident of Silver Creek, who died Tuesday night at Baptist Hospital in Jackson.
Rev. James McLemore officiated with Rev. D. W. Green assisting. Interment followed in the New Hebron Cemetery with Saulters Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were E. R. Conerly, Ervin Reid, J. W. Daniels, Talmadge Brister, Joe Givins, and Ras Case.
Mr. May had been a patient at Baptist Hospital since June 26, at which time he was admitted for treatment of injuries sustained when his car was struck by a log truck while he was stopped on highway 84 west where construction work was underway.
He was a longtime resident of Silver Creek where he was a farmer and a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon.
He served one term as a member of the Board of Supervisors of Lawrence County from 1952 to 1956. He was a veteran of World War I and was a Mason.
He and Mrs. May observed their Golden Wedding Anniversary on May 30.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gladys Sutton May of Silver Creek, three sons, Roy May of New Hebron, James Earl May of Silver Creek and Prodous May of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Mrs. Grayson Holloway of Silver Creek and Mrs. Dan Boyd of Jackson; two brothers, Lee May of Silver Creek and Essie May of Leesville, La.; two sisters, Mrs. V. W. Spell and Mrs. Effie Cain both of Braxton; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
