|Birth: ||Jun. 22, 1846|
|Death: ||Sep. 5, 1915|
Aaron was a traveling salesman. He was the son of Michael HUFFORD, Sr., and Anna Mary LOWMASTER.
He was married four times; he had children by only his first wife.
He first married Elizabeth MILLER in Centerville, St. Joseph County, Michigan, on March 17, 1868. She was the daughter of Isaac and Sarah MILLER. When Aaron and Elizabeth married, his brother Silas was married to her sister Esther, and Aaron's sister Amelia was married to Elizabeth's brother Joseph.
With Elizabeth, Aaron had five children: Ira Gration (1870-1935), Levi Silas (1872-1912), Edward W. (March 1874 - Aug. 1874), Ida Elizabeth (1875-1953, 1st m. PEARL, 2nd m. MOYLAN), and Edwin Edward (1878-1879).
By 1880, two of Aaron and Elizabeth's young children had died, and Aaron and Elizabeth had divorced. Their surviving children when they divorced were Ira (10), Levi (8), and Ida (4).
Aaron attempted to take custody of his little daughter, Ida, and he was jailed for the attempt. He had custody of his daughter for only one hour before the little girl's mother had the sheriff arrest Aaron and charge him with kidnapping.
In 1884, Aaron secondly married Ella CONKLIN.
In 1896, he married M. Jennie HARTEL, who previously had been married to Mr. BAUGHMAN.
In 1904, he married Luella Mary TROWBRIDGE, the daughter Levi Headly TROWBRIDGE and Harriett LANGDON. Luella previously had been married to Hubble WALTROUS.
In 1912, Aaron endured the drowning death of his son Levi and his grandson Walter.
On page 177 of the 1909 HUFFORD FAMILY HISTORY, there is an entry for Aaron; it likely was written by Aaron himself. Obviously, there are some problems with the chronology:
Aaron Hufford was born in Crawford County, Ohio, June 22, 1846, and reared on a farm. After leaving home, he was employed on a railroad for two years, then accepted a clerkship and finally went on the road as a traveling salesman. Was married March 17, 1868, to Miss Elizabeth [Miller], at Centerville, Mich. Went into the grocery business there and in 1870 sold out and moved to Grand Rapids, Mich., and followed railroading for several years, and then entered the grocery business. After two years, he sold out and commenced traveling for G. A. Wresley & Co., selling soap. In 1902 he went to Europe and spent one year there traveling through the Old World. Came home and traveled two years for Seeley Mfg. Co., of Detroit, Mich., selling perfumes and toilet goods in the New England States and New York. He then resigned his position and opened up a shoe store in Bowling Green, Ohio, where he remained in business for five years, then went to Tennessee and incorporated a lumber and shingle company. After a year, he came north and commenced traveling on the road selling shoes, in 1898. After two years on the road in this capacity, he opened up a new shoe store in Flushing, Mich. Was married the second time there to Luella M. [Trowbridge] Watrous, of Seneca Falls, N.Y., in 1904. Sold out there in 1906 and went to Indian Territory. Traveled for six months and came back to Michigan and has been traveling ever since. Now lives in Ann Arbor, Mich.
