Lt. Harold Wertheimer was killed in action on the 18th of December 1944 during the "Adrennes Offensive" better known as "The Battle of the Bulge". Lt. Wertheimer was a member of Company A, 11th Tank Battalion, 10th Armored Division, Third Army under the command of Gen. George S. Patton. He was killed in Northern Luxembourg near the Town of Berdorf while engaging the enemy.

From the Wilkes Barre Record, Thursday, August 26, 1948:
Lt. Harold Wertheimer of 196 North Washington Street, was buried yesterday afternoon in Hanover Green Jewish Cemetery where the body was taken on its arrival at Lehigh Valley station. Rabbi I. M. Davidson officiated, assisted by Canor Leon Mirsky. Members of Irving Rutstein Post, Jewish War Veterans, conducted military services in charge of Commander Arthur Bloom, Vice Commander William Gourvitz and A.J. Levin, post adjutant. Martin Brown was in charge of the firing squad and Arnold Davidson was bugler. Bearers were Nathaniel Landau, Al Finkelstein, Sidney Alinkoff, Martin Brown, Emil Alinkoff and Louis Rich.
