ALONZO, Margaret Lightsey, of Florence, died June 28, 2009, in Florence. She was 79.

Mrs. Alonzo was born Dec. 28,1929, in Centreville, to John and Annie Mae Lightsey. She was married to William Alon­zo for 57 years. She was for­merly of Montgomery, before recently moving to Florence. She was a graduate of Ala­bama College, State College for Women in Montevallo, where she majored in home economics. She taught school for 23 years. She en­joyed her time as a Cub Scout leader and loved to bake, sew, make quilts and read. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmoth­er, who will be greatly missed by her family.

Interment was at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo on July 1, 2009, with Chaplain Doyle Roberson officiating at the Committal Service.

Donations may be made in her honor to the Parkinson's Association of Alabama, P.O. Box 590146, Birmingham, AL 35259, or to your favorite charity.

Mrs. Alonzo was pre­ceded in death by her par­ents, John and Annie Mae Lightsey; and brother, Joe Lightsey.

She is survived by her husband, Col. William Alonzo; children, Peggy Alon­zo Hoekenga (Lt. Col. Paul), Florence, Maj. Chip Alonzo(Linda), Wetumpka, and Nan­cy Alonzo Vaughn (Mike),Montgomery; sisters, Louise Lightsey Nichols, Nettie Light­sey Stacy and Mary Alice Lightsey Hicks, all of Centre­ville; brother, Jack Lightsey, Centreville; grandchildren, Crystal Alonzo Moore (Mike),Chancellor, Kimberly Alonzo Lloyd (Chris), Montgomery, Elizabeth Hoekenga, Flor­ence, Will Hoekenga, Flor­ence, Leila Ruth Vaughn, Montgomery; and five great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to the staff at South­ridge Place Assisted Living Fa­cility, Wiregrass Hospice and Dr. Kenneth Kiser.
