The Sioux Valley News, 29 March 1906, page 8: Alma O. Thompson was born in Jackson County, Iowa, February 10, 1861. She married Adolphus Polley in Cherokee County in October 1878. To them were born six children, five daughters and one son, all who are living except one girl who died in January 1896. Mr. and Mrs. Polley lived for many years on the old homestead five miles north of Correctionville and for awhile the family resided in Correctionville. In 1902 they moved to Washta where they now reside. In 1904 Mrs. Polley joined the Washta M.E. Church. She was one of those loving women, always cheerful, and adored by her children and loved by her neighbors and friends. She was taken sick about March 7 with an abscess which grew rapidly worse. An operation was performed the 17th but she never rallied, and lived only six days longer, dying on March 24, 1906, aged 45 years, 1 month and 14 days. The funeral ceremony was conducted from the M.E. Church in Washta by their pastor and the remains buried in the cemetery on Union Ridge.
