LT(jg) (SS) John Hamilton,USN (Ret) was born John Hamilton Murphy, May 29, 1907 to Irish immigrant parents, Patrick Joseph Murphy and Mary Hamilton in Cheshire, CT.
John joined the U.S. Navy on June 27, 1923 at the age of 16 yrs, 1 month, and 8 days. He served his first enlistment as an electrician's mate aboard the battleship USS Mississippi. After returning to the Navy in 1928, he served in submarines until his retirement from the navy on April 5, 1946.
John married Helen Francis McQuillan in Yuma, Arizona in 1932. Helen died November 18, 1966 at home in Stillwater, Nevada and John died April 3, 1967 at Balboa Naval Hospital, San Diego, California. They are survived by a son, John M.Hamilton, of San Diego, California.
