She married Austin Davenport Ford on February 16, 1843 in Barren County, Kentucky. In addition to being a housewife and mother, Kitty Bird Huffman Ford taught piano. She was a Baptist. Kitty and her husband, Austin owned two tracts of land, 81 acres and 175 acres, located at Glover's and Fallen Timber Creeks (Elbow Springs), approximately two miles northwest of Eighty Eight, Kentucky. Her husband who was in the Union Army died on July 16, 1864 at Camp Joseph Underwood in Barren County, Kentucky from being accidentally shot in the leg while on military maneuvers and bled to death.
