Mr. W. T. Swayze Sr. passed away on August 23, 1965 at Ball Ellington Clinic in Rayville, LA., from a heart attack. His visitation was at the old Mulhearn Funeral Home in Rayville. His funeral service was conducted at Cedar Baptist Church in Archibald, LA., where he was a member. Rev. Billy Roy Snyder officiated. He was a member of the Rayville Masonic Lodge and was buried at the Rayville Masonic Cemetery on a very hot August afternoon.
Mr. Swayze was retired from Illinois Central Rail Road and had filled positions in Lawn, Tx., McGregor, Tx., & Delta Point, La, Often, his family's home was a rail road car in the area he worked. He was station attendant at the old Rayville, La. Depot and ended his long career as a telegraph operator at the rail road yards in Monroe, La. Mr. Swayze was a popular HAM radio operator and assisted many with locating family after hurricanes and other natural disasters. He loved to fish with his buddy, Dr. J. C. Ellington and anyone else that wanted to fish and who could put up with good "fish" stories.
Mr. Swayze was predeceased by his son, John Edward Swayze, grand daughter, Linda Sue Gill, and grandson, William Claude "Pete" Taylor. He was survived by his wife, Vesta Mae Vinson Swayze, son, William Tracy Swayze, Jr. (Beverly), daughters, Ruby Vera Swayze Joiner (Leo), Margaret Emma Swayze Gill (Ray) and Mary Sue Swayze Taylor (Billy). He had many loving grand children in Joyce Ann Joiner Todd, Ronnie Lynn Taylor, Charles Randal Joiner, Sheila Ray Gill, Cathy Sue Taylor, William Tracy Swayze III, Silas Edward Swayze, and Jennifer Ann Taylor.
