WATERTOWN, Nov. 8 Funeral services will be conducted
here Tuesday for Harry F. Landon,
managing editor, of the Watertown
Landon, 62, a member of the
Times staff for 32 years, about 25
of them as managing editor, died
Saturday night at his home. He had
been stricken ill earlier while at
work in the newspaper office.
Death was attributed to a ruptured
artery in the chest.
A native of Watertown, Landon
was noted as an authority on the
history of Northern New York. He
was graduated from St. Lawrence University and the Washington
College of Law.
After receiving his degree from
St. Lawrence, he served as principal
of the high school at Turin
and taught history at Herkimer
High School. He became secretary
of the late Republican Rep. Luther
W. Mott in 1917 and attended the
law school while working in the

Corps during World War 1 and
joined the Times as state editor in
1922. He later was promoted to
city editor and then to managing
Landon had written four books
of north country lore. His latest,
published recently, was "Bugles on
the Border, an account of Can
adian border fighting during the
War of 1812. His other titles:
"History of the North Country,"
1932; "Elementary History of Northern New York,- 1933,and
"150 Years of Watertown,"• 1 9 5 0

Ada C. Landon; a son, Harry F.
Landon Jr., Wantagh, L.I. and two
brothers, William F; and Clinton"
