Birth: unknown
Death: Jul. 21, 2007
Al Basrah, Iraq

Lance Corporal
The Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, attached to the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment serving with the Irish Guards Battle Group of the British Army deployed in Iraq.

LCpl Flowers died from injuries sustained from an indirect fire attack on Basra Palace. He was working on a vehicle on the military base and was hit by shrapnel from a rocket or mortar.

Aged 25, he was from Londonderry's Waterside but had lived with his grandparents in Portstewart. He joined the Army in January 2003 and was a vehicle mechanic serving his second tour of Iraq. Described as straightforward, helpful and popular, he was a natural mechanic at his happiest working on a tank.

Darren, nicknamed "Daz", is survived by his grandparents, parents, brother and other family members.

His funeral, with full military honours, was held on August 2, 2007 in Portstewart.
