|Death: ||Nov. 19, 1869|
Mary Kerr was married to Thomas Bennett and had four children, 2 girls: Australia and Rosalia, and 2 boys: Thomas and Robert. Thomas, the husband, was extremely abusive and after the Amador County sheriff advised him to leave the county and not come back, Mary began "dating" a Mr. George Walker. One day, Mr. Bennett returned to Ione, with a gun, found Mr. Walker in town and fired at him. He missed but a young man was standing there with a gun, which he gave to Mr. Walker, who fired and did not miss!
Mary eventually married Mr. Walker but died when only 35 years old. She and Mr. Walker had a daughter, Mayme who married a Prouty as did her half sister Australia. Mr. Walker's mother Jane raised the two Bennett boys and Mayme until they were all out of the house. Thomas, the son, is hanging out at the site of the old hotel that was above the current day police station, haunting those who believe in such things.
