Life History of John M. Morris.

John Milton Morris, whose death on January 16th was announced in the last issue of the STAR, was a resident of Napa county for thirty years. For several years he had suffered from catarrh of the stomach, which disease finally caused his death.

Mr. Morris was born in Vernon county, Mo., Jan. 29, 1835. In 1849 he removed, with his people to Iowa, and from thence to Nebraska. In these two states his life was that of a true pioneer, and he bravely contended with the hardships incident to a frontier settlement in those days. In 1857 Mr. Morris came to California, crossing the plains with ox-teams in company with a party of emigrants. Subsequently he returned to the Western States by water, and again crossed the plains with teams, reaching California in 1867.

The deceased spent a number of years in mining in Idaho, Nevada, and also in Trinity county, California. For the last thirty years, however, his residence had been in Napa county.

In 1875 Mr. Morris was married to Miss Melissa Harmon. She lived but a few years, leaving one son who survives his parents.

In 1894 Mr. Morris was again married to Miss Jennie Pratt, of Calistoga, who, with three little daughters, survives him. The deceased leaves one brother, Mr. Wm. Morris, of Lakeport and one sister, Mrs. Harriet Tracy, who resides in Eureka, Cal.
