Writer. He was well known as a creative novelist, playwright, poet and a social critic. In the 1930s, he was an active writer of essays, fiction, plays, poetry and his first novel published was, “The Grand Piano” (1942). His many other works included “Art and Social Nature” (1946), “The Structure of Literature’ (1954), “The Community of Scholars” (1962), “Province: The Moral Ambiguity of America “ (1967) and “Adam and His Works: Collected Stories” (1968). A strong advocate of the student movement during the 1960s, he wrote his tenth book of social criticism “Reformation” in 1970. He also was a co-founder of the Gestalt therapy, which is an existential experiential form of psychotherapy. He died of a heart attack at age 60.
