Roxie, whose name has been spelled various ways over the years, was the daughter of John Baker (born in IL).
She was shown as Miss Roxcelna Bakermarried when she married Alexander C. Smith in Scotland Co, MO, on September 20, 1860.
Roxie & Alexander's children were:
Walter Price - Feb. 10, 1862
Ida - Mar. 8, 1864
Matilda Berryman - Sept. 8, 1867
Minnie Mae - Nov. 16, 1868
All were born in Scotland Co, MO
Smith descendants claim that Alexander went to CA during the gold rush in the 1870's. He never returned home.
Perhaps the following newspaper article on the local news page of The Memphis Reville on Oct. 30, 1879, was connected to his disappearance. "Trial Docket of the Scotland Circuit Court, November Term, 1879. Listed were Civil Docket and Return Docket. Under Return Docket, 11th day, Friday, Nov. 14th, Roxey Smith was listed: Roxey Smith vs A & E J Smith; equity."
Roxie lived in Harrison Township, & was a widow when she died from Lobar Pneumonia at 6:30 p.m. on April 1915. She had lived 81 years.
Her son, Walter (of Memphis, MO) was the informant on her death certificate. She was buried April 17.
