A.W. Hooten and his family moved to Jones County in 1897. He was a carpenter.

Armstead Hooten (40385928)
A.W. Hooten, who settled on his farm on California Creek before Stamford was founded died in Stamford Thursday, June 20, at the age of 78 years. It was some 32 years ago that Mr. Hooten came to this country. After the city was laid out, he came to the new town to make his home and resided here until his death.
Mr. Hooten was born in Tennessee, February 28, 1851. Survived by one daughter, Mrs. John Hogan of Stamford and one son by another marriage, Charlie Hooten, who is in the United States Navy, stationed in the Hawaiian Islands.
Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Hogan Friday, June 21, conducted by the Rev. M.B. Harris, pastor of the Central Christian Church. Interment was made in Highland cemetery. Funeral was directed by the Kinney Undertaking Company.
