Born about 1770 in Greenwich, Massachusetts, Captain Simon Stone died of fever in Windsor on December 23 [alt. Dec. 24 or 25] 1818, in his 49th year. Husband of Charlotte (Hall) Stone. Father of Nathan (1792- ), Lyman (1793-1818), Orren (1795-1888), Ira (1797- ), Spencer (1799-1801), Melinda (1801- ), Ward (1803-1829), Ashley (1805-1806), Philander (1807-1890) and Almira (1811-1870). Member of the Congregational Church, a Selectman of Windsor (1816), and a captain in the local militia. At the time of his death he owned a homestead farm in Windsor of approximately 75 acres, and 50 acres of woodland in Peru, Mass., purchased from Amos Kingsley.
