Mrs. Helen Barrow Read, widow of William W. Read, died yesterday in the home of a friend in Peekskill, N.Y., after a long illness, at the age of 94. She was the oldest member of the Daughters of the Revolution in point of membership. Until recently, Mrs. Read had made her home for forty-one years with a niece, Mrs. Philip A. Brennan, of 309 Garfield Place, Brooklyn. No immediate relatives survive.

Memphis relatives have been notified of the death Sunday in Brooklyn, N.Y. of Mrs. Helen Barrow Read, onetime Memphian and a member of a prominent early Tennessee family. Mrs. Read was 95.

She was born on the historic "Barrow Hill," plantation near Nashville and moved with her family to Memphis after the Civil War. She was a charter member of Memphis Linden Avenue Christain Church. Soon after her marriage to the late William W. Read of Virginia, she moved to New York, where for 72 years she was active in Park Avenue Christian Church.

She was a charter member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and, at the time of her death, was the oldest registered member in the United States. Also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, she formerly served as a vice president-general of the National Chapter of the UDC.

Mr. Read died in 1910. Mrs. Read died at the home of her niece, Mrs. Philip A. Brennan in Brooklyn. She was also an aunt of Mrs. Joseph E. Allen, 747 E. Parkway S., and Mrs. Curtis R. Senter, Jr., 3781 Oakley, and a great-aunt of Miss Elizabeth Barrow Senter, also of Memphis.

Services were yesterday at Park Avenue Christian Church in New York, Rev. Ira W. Langston officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
