Philip Bailey Criggar Jr. was born in Smyth Co. VA, to farmer Philip Bailey Cregger and his wife, Irene Lucy Bowling in 1918. He is the 2nd of four children, and grew up to serve as a Paratrooper for the Army during World War II, where he survived a serious back injury.
After coming home, "Pete", as he was called by all who knew him, worked construction, helping to build, among other things, the Metro subway tunnels in and around the DC area.
He retired and he and his family moved to the eastern shore, where he lived until he passed away in 2004.
He was my grandfather.
