My 2nd great grandfather.

Son of Jacob K. Gibbs and Catherine Rickard.

Husband of Mary Ann Kearns.

Father of Ezra, Moses , Adam A., Adda A., Martha, William H., George Edward, Mary Catherine, Jacob, Alvin, and Oleiva Jane Gibbs.

Abraham's date of birth was taken from Personal History Department of Mason County, Graham District, Hardesty's Biographical Atlas 1882. Abram was a stone mason by trade.

In 2005, my sister and I followed the narrow, winding roads that lead to a pine grove where Zerkle-Gibbs Cemetery is hidden among the steep, beautiful hills of West Virginia near Gibbstown. It is an aged cemetery, still in use, and well kept.

It was here that our great-great grandfather Abraham Gibbs chose to bury his family beside his own parents, Jacob K. and Catherine Rickard Gibbs, and Thomas and Malinda Roush Kearns, parents of Abram's beloved wife Mary Ann.

Most of their stones, including his own, were made and carved by Abram himself, using the traditional spellings. They stand in a line near the far edge of the cemetery, surrounded by kindred families.

It is a place of quiet, a place of peace, where generations of our family were laid to rest.
