Sam Hunt lived in Spearsville, La. He was the father of my precious Grandpa, Joseph Melvin Hunt. Sam Hunt was a farmer and he also raised cows. I used to hear stories from my Grandpa how Sam Hunt used to truck patch and raise vegetables to sell alongside the road, and how he used to milk the cows and take the fresh milk into El Dorado, Ar. to sell each morning. Sam Hunt was a good Christian man. Sam and his wife Sallie both attended worship services at Antioch church of Christ, just down the road from where they lived. They are both buried in the cemetery behind the church building.

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
on polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I'd exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
in flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
entirely not our own.
The place you filled one hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew.....
That someday I would find this spot,
and come to visit you.

Like a tiny seed
That fell to earth.
When no one cared
Or knew it's worth.
Through wind and rain
Sleet and snow.
It sprouted roots.
And began to grow.
Now Whoever thought
That you and me.
Would be one branch
Of that mighty tree.
