Ferris died Dec. 13, 2004 at home.
Ferris Ward Hancock was born June 4, 1924 to William and Eva Lewis Hancock in Taylor. He was the youngest of ten children, and worked with his father in sheep ranching.
Ferris was a talented student and artist and graduated from Snowflake High School in 1942. He served in the Army in World War II beginning in 1943. Ferris married Melinda Hatch Feb. 14, 1948 in Winslow, and took her with him to finish his army duty in Germany. The family came home to settle in Phoenix in 1951, where Ferris worked for Reynolds Aluminum and later for the US Postal Service.
Ferris enjoyed woodworking, painting and gardening. He served in the LDS Church as Sunday School President, Ward Clerk and High Counselor. Ferris and Melinda moved to Gilbert in 1980 after his retirement, where he designed and built their home. They served as Temple Workers in the Mesa LDS Temple for eight years. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1998. He enjoyed his family and traveling in his retirement years.
He is survived by his wife Melinda Hancock; sons Ferris Ward Hancock Jr. "Butch" (Kathy); and daughters, Susan Emily Boehme (Ryan), and Jacque Lyn Hayes (John); 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. at the LDS Cooley Ward, 1451 W. Guadalupe Rd. in Gilbert. Viewing will be one hour prior. Burial following at the Taylor Cemetery at 4 p.m.
