George was the third child born of eight, fathered by John Henry Stickel (b: 6 Jan 1837; d: 22 Aug 1932)-- who was married three times. George married Samantha Finley on 25 Oct 1879 in Doddridge County, WV; he took a second wife, Susan Huff, in 1883 and they were also in Doddridge County. George was a active member of the Big Isac IOOF for a number of years and is obiutary states that he was buried in Mount Olive Cemetery which is just south of Salem, WV. While he may be buried here, no gravestone has been found or site of his grave; it is also believed that neither wife was buried here with him either.
