Like the dew on the mountain
Like the foam in the river
Like the bubble on the fountain
Thou art gone and forever.

Elvira, daughter of Richard and Nancy Foster, was born in Highland county, Ohio, July 23, 1828. Married James Henry Brown March 7, 1850. Died October 12, 1903, after a lingering illness, at the age of 75 years, 2 months and 18 days.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Carl Brown of Russell assisted by Rev. Brown of Oakley at the Pleasant Plains church at 2 o'clock Wednesday, October 14. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband who preceded her to the better land October 15, 1878.

The deceased moved with her husband to Knox county, Illinois, 1856, then to Lucas county in April 1866, where she lived the rest of her life. She left nine children to mourn a beloved mother, all having been with her during her last illness; Chas. W., H. Frank, Richard F., and Thomas N. Brown of Chariton and Mrs. Catherine White of Chariton, Mrs. Elvira Slater of Russell, Mrs. Anne Barnett of Oklahoma, Mrs. Daisy Moore of Russell and James C. Brown of Kirksville, Mo. One baby having died in infancy.

She has been a devoted christian since the age of seventeen. A true and loving wife and mother, a kind and sympathetic friend, always ready to assist those in distress. She will be missed and mourned by all who knew her.

Eight of her brothers and sisters are left. This being the first death among this family of children for a period of 76 years.

Many friends in and around Chariton sympathize with the bereaved children in their sorrow. She was borne to her resting place by six of her grandsons, Otis Gail, James Gail, Carl Brown, Roy and Guy White.
