Grace Edith Patterson, daughter of John and Catherine White, was born in English township, Lucas county, Iowa, on May 17, 1883. She departed from this life Sept. 5, 1952 at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 69 years, three months and 19 days.

On Jan. 1, 1916 she accepted Christ as her saviour at the Methodist church in Newbern, Iowa and was a faithful worker and believer for her Father.

On Jan. 24, 1906 she was united in marriage to Guy E. Patterson and to this union three children were born, Pauline who died in infancy, Estalene Pierschbacher of Newbern, and Donovan of Chariton.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her husband, two children, one son-in-law, and one daughter-in-law, nine grandchildren and two brothers, Guy White and Thomas White of Chariton, one sister, Mrs. Halleck Baker of Des Moines, nieces and nephews and a host of close friends.

She was a devoted mother who gave unselfishly of herself for her family and especially her nieces and nephews. Her deep heart interest was always in the welfare of others.

Throughout her long illness her cheerfulness and courage were an inspiration to her family who cared for her, as well as to her many friends.

Casket bearers were her nephews, John White of Harlan; Kenneth White, Guy White, Jr., of Chariton; Richard Baker, Corydon; Keith Baker, Knoxville; and Clyde Riggs of Des Moines.

Services, in charge of the Rev. A. E. Beals and the Rev. Clark, were held at the Miley Chapel, Sunday afternoon, Sept. 7, 1952 and interment in the Oxford cemetery.
