Mrs. Isaac Russell
The death of Mrs. Mary Ella Russell, widow of Isaac Russell, and mother of Mrs. George L. Deakin of Cooperstown, occurred Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock at Otego at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roy Sweet, after a six months' illness.
Born in Westville December 28, 1863, a daughter of James and Amelia (Son) Saxton, Mrs. Russell married William Hurd in 1882. He died in 1892. In 1893 she married Isaac Russell, who died October, 1938. Mr. and Mr. Russell were residents of Laurens, Milford and Cooperstown for many years, before moving to Otego.
A member of the Methodist church, Milford, she had sung in church choirs for over forty years.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Forrest L. Haight, Port Chester; Mrs. Sweet, and Mrs. Deakin, Cooperstown; five stepchildren, Seeber Russell, Fred Russell, Mrs. Blanch Woolhouse, Mrs. Grace Hoag and Mrs. Joseph Bittner; three grandchildren, twelve step-grandchildren, four bothers, George Saxton, Milford Ceneter; Charles L. Saxton, Oneonta; Jay Saxton, Cooperstown; James Saxton, Springfield Center; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Cornish, Worcester; Mrs. Belle Bowen, and Mrs. Edwin Smith, Cooperstown; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at the daughter's home at Otego Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. W.H. Alger, retired Methodist minister, in charge. Burial was made in the family plot at Westville.
