The death of Mrs. Laura Ann Courter, 79, a life county resident, occurred Saturday evening at 5:45 o'clock in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed Barrus, 706 West Main Street. Mrs. Courter had been in ill health the past six years. On July 26, she fractured her hip and was taken to the hospital where she remained until her birthday, Sept. 16. Then she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Barrus, where her death occurred suddenly of a heart attack.
The daughter of Eli and Mary Elburn Bonewitz, she was born at Stockdale, near Roann, Sept. 16, 1860. On Aug. 21, 1882, she was married to William Courter. His death occurred on May 30, 1914. Six children were born to this union, one dying in infancy. For approximately 50 years, Mrs. Courter had resided at 1172 Coate Street, the South Side.
She was an active member of the First United Brethren Church of the South Side until ill health. She also belonged to the Ladies' Aid Society.
Surviving are five children: Mrs. Mazie Turschman, Wabash; Mrs. Howard Powell, South Bend; Mrs. Ed Barrus, Wabash; Earl and Clarence Courter, Wabash; a sister, Mrs. Alice Gray, Wabash; a brother, Eli Bonewitz, Wabash; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Jones Funeral Home. Rev. C.J. McCrocklin of the First United Brethren Church will officiate. Interment will be in Falls Cemetery. The body will remain at the Jones Funeral home where friends may call.
